For the last part of our trip on the South Island, we drove the along the scienic Queen Charlotte Drive from Havelock to catch the ferry in Picton.

The Queen Charlotte Drive is a 40 kilometre windy road fringed with native forest with views of The Marlborough Sounds. The views are breathtaking (I’m throwing this phrase out a lot, but a lot of things are breathtaking in NZ!). We drove through lots of sleepy bays, and kept on casting our eyes left towards the emerald blue waters of the Marlborough Sounds. After lots of twists and turns where we arrived in Picton to catch the ferry across the Cook Strait to Wellington.

We then took the ferry back across the Cook Strait, and by ‘eck it was an epic crossing. More of those emerald blue waters with the sun soft casting shadows on the hills and mountains.

We said ‘Goodbye’ to the South Island, for now…

p.s. photos are a bit limited, as I accidentally hit the ‘delete’ button on my ipad. Oh well, we’ll just have to go back
